I love a high school senior movie. Prom is the most important thing in the world. You’d rather be seen sad and alone at prom than let the bullies have the satisfaction of knowing you just skipped it. Relationships and worldviews are changing and everyone’s confused all the time, but still in a low-stakes high school kind of way. People can get hurt but they’ll bounce back, in 10 years they’ll barely think about it anymore.

For all these reasons I loved Pretty in Pink while I was watching it. It’s a good movie. Only problem being I don’t like the high school sweetheart. He’s not much of a sweetheart, he kinda seems like he doesn’t have any interests or hobbies, he’s boring as hell. Andie needn’t give him the time of day, and jn this movie where every character needs to get over something why couldn’t she have gotten over him.
