Between Two Fires
2012 Author: Christopher Buehlman
Score 4/5
This was so much better than I expected. I bought it purely based on the striking cover. I’ve been burned by doing this before, ending up with a YA novel about someone rebelling against a fictional organized religion. That’s not the worst thing in the world but it wasn’t what I was looking for.
This was what I was looking for.
It’s so vivid, and grotesque, and beautiful. A story about angels and demons and humanity being torn apart between them. It started to slow towards the final quarter or so, as most of the mystery was pulled back and I was waiting for things to come to a climax. But the first 75% was some of my favorite storytelling in a while.
